Another week in this Arizona heat π₯
Like 120 degrees every day. Lovely! To explain what it feels like...
well, it's like a blow dryer. The wind is a blow dryer. And when you
open the door it feels like you're opening an oven. You cannot not
sweat. My back just drips with sweat everyday. I remember one night
(at like 8:45, should've been cooled down a bit now huh. No. Still
like 105 or more) we were talking to a member and while sitting there,
my arms and face and back and everything was just all moist. Like my
arms were sweating while just sitting there. And then when I got home
my arms were all sticky π it's great hahaha. You get used to it. If
you just accept the fact that you are going to sweat, it's not so bad!
This week I honestly don't remember. We found 5 investigators though!
So today we are at a pizza place here in Mesa. There is a pizza
challenge here that you can do. There's 16 pieces (huge pieces) that
you have to eat in an hour. Well, the record is 13 minutes and my
trainer (Elder Familia) is trying to hard to beat the record! π he's
basically inhaling the pizza π
My companion and I have a goal of this week (and I imagine more weeks)
of being 100% obedient. That's super hard to do. BUT we know the
blessings from it. So we are gonna do it! Follow up on us in a week π
I have a super cool story of an investigator we have! So we went over
to his house and he told us that he had gotten out in jail and had
just got out like a day earlier or something like that. Well, while he
was in jail he prayed to God for a message or something. Maybe he
wanted a sign. Well, guess what! The next day, we showed up!!! And he
told us that. He was like, "I prayed and then the next day you guys
showed up." And I was like, mano, YOUR PRAYER WAS ANSWERED GO YOU WE
ARE HERE FOR YOU BUUUUUUUUD
well that's all I got for ya this week. Love y'all π
A record of Brett Hepworth's experiences in Arizona as he serves for 2 years. Elder Hepworth is from Pocatello, Idaho, and was called to Arizona, Mesa, Spanish Speaking, as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

06/19/17 - IDAHOME ELDERS HEPWORTH AND GULL
guuuuyyyyssss.
HERE COMES THE 120 DEGREE WEATHER!!!
So yesterday it was like 113 and everyoonnnee keeps telling me that
it's going to be like 118 today and basically for the rest of the
summer. My thoughts?? How do people live here. I mean, I guess it
feels good when you walk outside and it feels like you're opening the
oven door and you can feel your skin shrivel up and sizzle and you
instantly feel like you're gonna die??? Hahaha but I do the work still
and I love it here. But, this heat just makes me more and more excited
for the winter!! 60 degree weather doesn't sound so bad rn! And now
90-95 degrees feels good outside. Like really good.
This week I just had many experiences to learn patience π I'm not
going to go into details, but yeah patience was tested by people. So,
this one Elder told me something so true! We were in the stake center,
in the computer room thing, making progress reports, and we mentioned
that we had been praying a lot for patience. And he was like, "you've
been praying a lot for patience?" And I was like, "yeah" and he said,
"well that just means that you're going to be given something to be
patient about!" And I was like... dang it. You're right. What a smart
man. So both my companion and I have been working together to have
patience for people and things. Just so many things have happened to
us as a companionship! Like I don't even know why! But I've learned to
laugh about it, and more often that not, i laugh until I'm about to
pee myself because it is truly hilarious. Especially my companions
reactions π he was like, why are all these bad things happening to
me? I had a good life back home. I was smart, I was a good driver,
etc. All I've learned on my mission are things NOT to do. Like, "well,
now I know never to do that again." But really the truthfulness of
that!! So many things happen where it's jut like.. well... that was
embarrassing! Or, that was stupid! For sure ain't gonna do that again!
And then you just laugh about it and move on. And then laugh about it
a while later when you remember it, and then laugh again two weeks
later cause it's still just as funny as it was when it happened!
A funny experience that happened this week was the following:
So, I can't remember what day it was this week. I wanna say it was
like Thursday or something. But anyways so we had a lesson with one of
our investigators (the one with a baptismal date). So we went to her
house (information: her front door has a huge window on it, so you can
see through it into the kitchen). So, we go and knock on her door and
it didn't seem like anybody was home. We knocked three times, like
usual, and she didn't answer. So I started walking away and right when
I walked away, my companion was like, "ella estΓ‘, ella estΓ‘" because
she started walking up to the door. Well, she looked sick and wasn't
feel too well and was still in her pajamas (more information: she has
this stupid dog that's name is Brownie and he's always hyper and jumps
on my very nice pants that I don't want to get dirty and is super
annoying. So, that dog was inside and you could see it jumping on the
door trying to see us and all hyper and barking and what not). So,
this investigator came to the door and was trying to open the door but
she didn't want her dog to get out and the dog was all hyper, so she
just gave up (mind: she was all depressed or sick or something). And
so she gave up and started talking to us through the door and I COULD
NOT HEAR A WORD SHE SAID! And I almost peed myself because she looked
like a mime. She just kept talking and looked all sad, and, looked
like a mime cause I couldn't hear a word. And I was trying SO HARD not
to laugh. I had to turn around and pretend I was looking at a tree or
something, and then I turned around and covered my face with a book
because I couldn't hold it back!! πππ kind of rude. Apologies. But
it was hilarious. Just had to be there!

06/12/17 - MESA NORTH DISTRICT
MESA NORTH DISTRICT |
HOW ARE YOU? IM SO GOOD. IDK WHY I ASK IF YOURE GOOD CAUSE I CANT HEAR
YOUR RESPONSE
so this week was grand. Honestly don't remember what happened. Why
does time go by so fast guys?
Oh but we did have a great time yesterday and the day before.
So, every other Friday we have lunch with this member in our ward.
Lady is super old. Has been feeding the missionaries since forever.
Super sweet lady!!!! Well, this last Friday she called us and was
like, "Hermanos, ¿cuantos van a venir maΓ±ana?" (She says it in an
Italian accent, but she's from the Dominican Republic. It sounds so
cool! Oh and the translation is, "brothers, how many people are coming
tomorrow?" And so when she called us we still hadn't sent out the
texts because we forgot. So we told her we would send out the texts
and let her know later. Well, like NOBODY responded to our texts and
so basically like nobody showed up and so on Sunday she chewed us out
and it was HILARIOUS. I just laughed cause it wasn't anything we could
control.
And then on Saturday, we were just driving along and we come to a stop
and we are wanting to turn left. WELL. There was a bush in the way.
And so this guy who was out in traffic motioned us forward as in to
say we were good to come out because we couldn't see. WELL, my
companion starts going and we get like part way out and THERE WAS A
TRUCK and so we were like well dang it what the heck man! And my
companion tried to put it in reverse super fast and he put it in
neutral and so when he tired to back up it reved up a lot and he was
like, "I hate my life." And then finally he got it in reverse and we
saved our lives. And so we tried to pull out in traffic like 2 other
times and almost died and my companion got SO mad ππππ I almost
peed myself it was so funny. When we finally pulled out into traffic
he was like, "ITS THAT STUPID BUSHES FAULT!!" and then he said
something only a tiny bit inappropriate and I almost peed myself.
WHOO! FUNNY.
And then yesterday we had dinner dropped off to us at our apartment.
And the lady who dropped it off always gives us like fruit and stuff.
And so when she came over to drop it off she saw the fruit was still
on our table. And she was like, (mind this whole conversation was in
Spanish and so it was even funnier) what! You put those in the
fridge!! And she made my companion repeat after her π she was like,
"put that in the fridge!" And then she was like, "what did I tell
you?" And then my companion said, ".... you put it in the fridge..."
and he said it all quiet and awkward and when she left I just laughed
at him forever. And he turns around and he was like, "I hate you." And
it made it even more FUNNY πππ
Okay yeah so that was my week. Super great! Hope yours was great!
